Good pickleball clothing for men should allow you to move freely across the entire court. Pickleball involves rapid changes of direction, short accelerations, rotations, and many forward and lateral movements. Therefore, the clothes need to perform well when the pace picks up.
For many male players, this means a light and comfortable shirt combined with shorts or other athletic wear that provides good freedom of movement. Exactly what you prefer is individual, but clothes that restrict shoulders, hips, or legs can quickly become distracting during a match.
On this page, we collect our men's assortment. If you want to see all categories instead, you can go to our main page for pickleball clothing.
What characterizes good pickleball clothing for men?
There is no requirement that you must wear a certain type of clothing to play pickleball. For casual play, function and comfort are significantly more important than what the label says.
However, some features are particularly useful on the pickleball court:
Good freedom of movement
Pickleball requires you to be able to move quickly in multiple directions. Therefore, your clothes should not be tight or restrict movement when you take a long stride, bend down for a low ball, or rotate your body in a shot.
Comfortable fit
Some male players prefer loose-fitting athletic wear, while others want a more body-hugging fit. There is no universally correct choice. The important thing is that the garments fit comfortably even when you move intensely.
Material that performs during activity
During longer matches, you quickly get warm. Light and functional materials that can handle moisture and dry quickly can therefore be practical, especially during intense play or high temperatures.
Clothes for the playing environment
If you play indoors, you primarily need to adapt your clothes to the temperature in the hall. Outdoors, you also need to consider sun, wind, and varying temperatures.
Pickleball shirts for men
A good pickleball shirt should primarily allow arms and upper body to move freely. Serves, forehands, backhands, and volleys involve repetitive movements in both shoulders and upper body, making the fit important.
For active play, a light functional shirt is a natural option. Materials that wick away moisture and dry quickly can feel more comfortable than heavier materials when you start to sweat.
For calmer recreational play, other comfortable T-shirts can also work well. You don't need to use advanced functional garments to start playing pickleball.
Pickleball shorts for men
Shorts are a common choice for men as they provide great freedom of movement and work both indoors and during warmer outdoor play.
When choosing shorts for pickleball, it's good to check that they don't restrict your stride length or feel tight when you get into a lower position. Stretch and a flexible construction can be particularly useful for quick lateral movements.
Pockets can also be practical, but make sure they don't interfere with your play and that the contents stay secure during movement.
Pickleball clothing for men indoors
A large part of Swedish pickleball is played indoors. In a heated sports hall, relatively light athletic wear is often sufficient – for example, a T-shirt or functional shirt combined with shorts.
However, temperatures can vary greatly between different halls. An extra layer can therefore be practical during warm-up and between matches, even if you prefer lighter clothes once the game starts.
Also, keep in mind that the body quickly gets warm during intense rallies. Therefore, don't dress solely based on how the temperature feels when you first enter the hall.
Pickleball clothing for men outdoors
For outdoor play, clothing needs to be adapted to the weather. On warm summer days, light and airy garments are natural, while spring and autumn play often requires greater flexibility.
Dressing in several thin layers can be practical when the temperature varies. Then you can easily take off a layer after warm-up and put it back on between matches.
If you play in strong sun, you should also consider sun protection and choose clothes based on how long you will be on the court.
What should a man wear the first time he plays pickleball?
You don't need to buy special pickleball clothes before your first session. If you already have comfortable athletic wear at home, it will likely work well for trying out the sport.
A simple combination is:
Workout shirt + shorts or workout pants + appropriate shoes.
After a few games, you'll notice which features you value yourself. Perhaps you want thinner materials, more stretch, or a different fit. Then it will be much easier to choose clothes based on how you actually play.

Athletic wear or specific pickleball clothing?
Regular athletic wear can work excellently for pickleball. At the same time, the sport's rapid growth has led to more and more clothes and collections being developed or marketed specifically for pickleball players.
The most important thing is not what the garment is called but how it performs on the court. If an athletic garment provides good freedom of movement, feels comfortable, and suits the temperature, there's no reason why it can't be used for pickleball.
For those who play often, however, it can be practical to build up a wardrobe with garments that are known to work well during pickleball play.
What materials are good for pickleball clothing?
There is no single material that is always best. For active play, many appreciate light synthetic functional materials because they can combine low weight, stretch, and moisture management.
Stretch is particularly useful because you need to be able to rotate your body, reach for balls, and quickly change position without the garment restricting movement.
Cotton can also work for recreational play, but it normally absorbs more moisture and can therefore feel heavier when you sweat a lot. How big a difference this makes depends on how intensely and for how long you play.
How should pickleball clothing fit?
The fit is personal. The clothes do not need to be very loose or very tight to work well on the pickleball court.
A simple way to assess a garment is to think about the movements you actually make during play. Can you take a big step sideways, get down for a low ball, and rotate your upper body without the garment feeling tight? Then you've come a long way.
So try to choose based on function in movement rather than solely on how the garment fits when you stand still.
Pickleball clothing for practice, matches, and competition
For regular practice and recreational play, you can largely choose the clothes that feel best for you. If you are competing, you should also check what rules and any clothing requirements apply to the specific competition.
If you compete regularly, it may be wise to use the same type of clothes for practice. Then you'll already know how the garments feel during longer and more intense matches.
Don't forget the right shoes for pickleball
Although clothing affects comfort, shoes are particularly important for how you move on the court. Pickleball involves many quick starts, stops, and lateral movements.
Shoes made for court movement are therefore normally a better choice than, for example, regular running shoes, which are primarily developed for forward movement.
